A lever hoist uses a ratcheting lever to lift, lower, pull, and tension loads, with a free-wheeling mechanism for quick chain adjustment; a hand chain block is mainly built for fixed-point vertical lifting. Choose based on whether you also need pulling and positioning, not just lifting.
